The Meaning Of Life

intentional living meaning of life regrets Sep 14, 2020

Have you ever deliberately taken time to sit down and think about the meaning of life? It's an interesting question to ponder, a heavy one, and one with no right answer.

In 2017, the year of my cancer battle, my sister was going through a bit of a rough time. I think she was really stressed and worried about me.

I decided to make her a happiness box. In there I put a few of my favorite self-help books, a gratitude journal, a jar full of motivational phrases she could draw one out as needed, a few cute quote blocks, an audible gift certificate, a voucher for a sister's getaway, a list of things I had learned in life.

In that list of things I had learned in life, I told her what I thought the meaning of life was. After lots of thought this was the conclusion I came to:

Life is about maximizing happiness by using your skill/talent & gifts to make a positive difference in the world, practicing gratitude, all while minimizing regrets and being true to yourself.

In order to minimize regrets, I began my intentional living journey.

  • I believe in telling people who mean a lot to you how much you care for them and not just when they need to hear that or when something is bad in their life. You can't assume they know how you feel.
  • I believe in spending your time doing things that are important and matter to you.
  • I believe that you shouldn't procrastinate on your dreams.
  • I believe you should stand up for what you believe in.
  • I believe in being honest and true. I'm a pretty straight talker.
  • I believe life is too short to stay in a situation in which you are not happy, whether that is a relationship, a job, a living situation you owe it to yourself to do something about it.

You can really see how living intentionally aligns with what I think the meaning of life is.

This is one of the reasons I love to teach intentional living and became a life coach.

When I live intentionally I make time for the priorities in my life. I do things that make me happy, that allows me to help others, I intentionally set time aside to practice gratitude. Living intentionally allows me to be true to myself.

If you haven't spent time thinking and formulating an answer to the question of what the meaning of life is to you, I'd highly suggest doing it. It's an insightful exercise.
